WK 9: Platinum Shuffle
Invite your Friends, Pocket some $$
BOSTON, MA Friday Jun.3.2005 /FantasyMusicLeague.com/ -- Today we reveal the secret behind the missing Insider, explain why blondes have more fun, and get into the mood as you 'grind with me.'
Last week was the week of the shuffle. Every label in the Open League's top 10 jumped around except for Rock Star, who has remained steady at #6 - you go girl. The cause for all the action is the addition of the Platinum award. For those labels who were brilliant enough to select superstars at the beginning of the season and didn't trade any artist, leaped over those labels who had recently made artist swaps. If you've been wise enough to own an artist for eight consecutive weeks, and that artist stays on the eTracks charts for all 8 weeks, you earn another bonus of 10% of the artist's weekly revenue for those weeks.
Also there is now an FML Platinum award logo, in the artist pod area, for those artists that are eligible - see Kelly Clarkson who is generating serious cash for her labels. Mariah Carey, My Chemical Romance, U2, and Tim McGraw are just a handful of artists that are basking in the platinum glow. As we get closer to the final few weeks of the Spring Season of the FML the action will only get more frenetic and exciting.
The most widely held country artist on the FML happens to be the talented trio of Sugarland. This isn't a big surprise since their debut album, Twice The Speed of Life, is getting tons of accolades, not to mention the runaway eTrack success of the single "Baby Girl." The hot single also has the honor of being the highest-charting debut single by a country group in 14 years on the world charts. Anyway, what does that hit single have to do with the missing FML Insider? Well last week my wife and I welcomed our own baby girl into the world and still haven't come down from the 'pretty in pink' high.
Once you're a registered player, you can earn cash by inviting your 'peeps' to play the Fantasy Music League. In classic networking fashion you earn bling in two ways: by referring people, and when your referrals, in turn, refer people. The only requirement is that you and your referrals all register a label to play in the Open League. So, once you register, for each Open League label created by one of your direct referrals, you'll earn 200 points. In addition, you'll earn 100 points for each Open League label created by your indirect referrals. Once you've earned a minimum of 2,500 points, the FML pays you cash at the end of the season. If you haven't earned 2,500 points at the end of the season, don't worry - your points carry over to the next season. Got it?
I Love Lucy
Along with Bloc Party, real-life brothers, Pretty Ricky make an impressive debut on the FML this week. Pretty Ricky consists of rappers Slick 'Em, Baby Blue, and Spectacular, and singer Pleasure. Who said sibling boy bands are dead? The album 'Blue Stars' features the sexy single 'Grind with Me' would surly make Lucy Ricardo blush. The boys had their very own Joe Jackson in their father, Blue Smith, whom they affectionately call "'ol boy." Blue was the staunch disciplinarian, ensuring that his boys were developing and perfecting their craft from an early age in Florida. By the way the after 14 weeks of drama-filled arguments, dizzy spells and a media circus, the fate of Michael Jackson is now in the hands of the jury.
