There are very few artists that can reach the upper register sounds Mariah Carey can, while teetering about in those high heel Manolo Blahniks. And as much as we dig Mimi, Mr. Blackwell thinks the fashionista needs some serious work. Just in time for the upcoming MTV Music Awards, it looks like Carey is getting a style makeover from her N.B.F. Vogue editor-at-large, Andre Leon Talley. According to the Big Apple's fave news rag the New York Post, Carey's pals hope Talley can do what he did for Melania Trump and turn her into a style icon. (Don't worry, I'm scratching my head, too.) Regardless of her looks, Mariah's revenue is up 64% since last week and brings in a sweet $1.7 million for her labels. So there.
Like a classic country and western song, Keith Urban has been through it all. Rose to fame in his hometown of Australia, came to the big city (Nashville) with guitars in his eyes, then spiraled into the world of drugs and alcohol. Urban says he hit bottom one dark 5 a.m., when he found himself crawling around the floor in a decrepit Nashville drug house looking for rocks of cocaine.(I myself, am hoping that E!'s True Hollywood Story will do him justice with a gritty re-enactment of this!) After getting himself to a treatment center, this brilliant guitarist was able to resuscitate his personal and professional life. His current single, Making Memories of Us, looks poised to work its way up the eTracks. And at this week's Academy of Country Music Awards, Keith Urban was the big winner. Urban was named top male vocalist and his disc, Be Here, won for album of the year. Looks like he will be a bloomin onion, after all!
Blondes really do have more fun!
Next week is this week we can bask in Platinum status. If you've been wise enough to own an artist for eight consecutive weeks, and that artist stays on the eTracks charts for all 8 weeks, you earn another bonus of 10% of the artist's weekly revenue for those weeks.
Back on the Streets, boys?
Awww, yeah! Believe it or not, the Backstreet Boys are back and making their debut on the FML this week. After a lawsuit, rehab and an arrest, the 90s boy band is making a comeback. (See: Keith Urban's E! True Hollywood Story above) Incomplete, the first single off the new Never Gone album is making its way up the eTracks. Anna Nalick is the only other artist making her first appearance on the FML. Nalick is the much-hyped singer/songwriter with her debut disc, Wreck of the Day.
This summer there are some incredible All-Star tours coming your way. No stranger to the road 3 Doors Down has performed over 1000 live shows in the past 5 years. 3 Doors Down also has the honor of being named NASCAR's favorite Rock Band. (Yes, that is NASCAR and honor in the same sentence!) Their third album Seventeen Days has grabbed the limelight and many new fans with its hard rocking sounds and thoughtful lyrics. I smell a Dave Matthews Band in the making! 3 Doors Down takes top revenue generating honors this week with a 117% increase over last week. On tour with the band this year will be rockers Staind and Breaking Benjamin. Other hot summer concerts (and FML league favorites) will be Green Day, Brooks & Dunn with Big & Rich, and oldies, but goodies, Don Henley and Stevie Nicks.
