WK 12: 50 Cent Scares the FML
Smells Like Spring
BOSTON, MA Saturday Mar.26.2005 /FantasyMusicLeague.com/ -- As always the FML is full of surprises: Turns out the FML is scared of 50 Cent, you'll never guess who is the African King, while Craig Morgan tells us what he likes about Sunday and we spill the beans about the offer that's too good to refuse.
Who's Afraid of 50 Cent?
50 Cent continues to turn up the juice and the cash for some labels on the FML. Not since 1964 when the Beatles held top spots on the charts has a rapper dominated the worldwide charts in such a way. Between the funky groove of "Candy Shop", or as the featured star on The Game's "Hate it or Love It" single, or the sexy "Disco Inferno" and his latest ditty 'Just a Lil Bit" there is no stopping 50 Cent. However, with all his moneymaking power, there is only one Open League label that bought 50 Cent. Rivers739 is basking in the glow of serious cash, like an increase of $1.3 million in revenue over last week.
And their GLP Records holds the top spot again this week.
The Debut of 'O'
There is only one week left until Diamond level, so anyone willing to pick up the "O"? By 'O' we mean Omari "Omarion" Grandberry, formally of the boy band B2K. Now this 20-year-old is making the tough transition from teen dream to adult soul singer. Course O doesn't make it look so hard with an album that is moving up the eTracks, dance moves that put Usher to shame and a two-picture movie deal with MTV Films, Omarion just may be worth the risk. This week Omarion makes over $1 million to the lucky folks who scoop him up. By the way, Omarion means "African King Forever."
Smells Like Spring
The Indie and Open season for Winter 2005 ends April 1st, and the Spring 2005 season begins Monday, April 4th. Only labels competing in the Open League get to play for the big prizes: a share in $25,000 in cash and products, including iPods, iTunes downloads, hit CDs and more. And the big news is, drum roll please it only costs $10 bucks to get in the game. That's a 70% slash in price. Do it now, because the deadline for finalizing your switches (and paying your registration fees) is noon PST on Monday April 4th. Really crazy cats, this offer is too good to refuse.
My Kind of Livin'
Since country artists seem to cause trouble for most labels, you should probably check out Craig Morgan at iTunes. This former Green Beret is making a lot of noise with his latest single 'That's What I Like About Sunday'. Morgan generated over $1 million in revenue since last week.
Nelly Tour Postponed
Nelly's recently started tour has been postponed due to his sister's death from complications from leukemia. Whether or not the tour will continue seems to be in question. But those of you with Nelly on your label are staying steady this week.
The Boss is Coming
The title track and first single from Bruce Springsteen's upcoming CD "Devils & Dust" is coming out. Springsteen is also expected to announce details of an acoustic tour in support of the new album.
